There is no clear answer to this question because each of us is based on our own experience with cats and personal and material resources in various sources of knowledge in this matter. However, the opinion of vets is well defined: adequate nutrition is the key to the proper development of your pet.
Dry feed
Give the kitten dry feed is permitted only after it goes to the "adult" meals after giving up its mother's milk. If you choose this way and want to establish a diet of dry feed for your pet, then for small kittens choose only small, high-quality feed and make sure the animal has direct access to the water. This also applies to adults - a cat eating dry feed needs three times much water than a cat eating homemade food or soft canned food.
If your favorite refuses to drink out of bowls that you have prepared for it, you cannot expect that once the cat listens to your will, and will drink the water from the tank if it does not want to. Just change the bowl on something else. Many animals like to drink from large vessels, even from basins. Let the cat drink what it wants, and most importantly, that the cat had enough liquid it needs.
Canned food
It can be mixed with other types of food, which opens great opportunities for the formation of nutrition of your pet. It should be noted, that vets prohibit mixing dry feed with other types of food since this can lead to poor digestion and metabolic breakdown in an animal.
Rice or semolina porridge, cooked with water or broth would be good. If you add canned food to this dish, your pet will be happy. Do not forget that the main thing in the diet is meat, do not abuse cereals or vegetables, which are added in the ratio of one to four: one spoon of vegetables or cereals into four pieces of meat.
Varieties of feeds
There are several price categories, which help to operate in the selection of cat food.
• The category "economy class". It implies well-known and advertised types of animal feed. Their production includes, as a rule, the products that you would have hardly given your cat: twisted leather, feathers, bones, and entrails. Skin and liver are not given to cats at all. The cat's body simply will not be able to recycle them. Other internal organs, which are used in cooking such feed, should be at least well cooked. Moreover, manufacturers use lots of flavors and flavor enhancers, which ultimately will result in urolithiasis.
• The "middle class" category. Feeds of this price are hardly advertised. Their production includes the same by-products, but of higher quality, which affects the health of the cat in the best way. However, abusing this food is not worth it: there are enhancers and artificial additives in it.
• "Premium Class" is for those cat owners who can buy expensive feeds, because the pricing of feed in this category speaks for itself. The quality of such products is at the highest level: no feed additives, flavor enhancers, and other substances that are bad for the health of the cat. However, a large amount of meat, cereals and vegetables to your pet will be the only benefit.
Homemade food
You may find that feeding the cat homemade food is not much cheaper than the purchased food, because you need to balance food yourself.
- 1. Give your pet beef, which had lain for several days in the freezer, and cut it into small oblong pieces that a cat could chew them. The meat of young animals is absorbed worse than adult animals' meat.
- 2. Include in the diet vegetables and cereals.
- 3. Do not give anything sweet, salty, spicy or fatty.
- 4. Milk is harmful to cats.
- 5. But dairy products (curd, fermented baked milk, dilute cream) will be beneficial for the cat.
- 6. Give your cat clean water.
- 7. Do not let your pet eat the animal's skin, bones, and liver.
- 8. Give only well-cooked and cleaned skin and bones fish and no more than a couple of times a week.
In practice, it turns out that it is not so difficult to feed a cat. The menu selection is enormous. If you do prefer healthy food, it will not be difficult for you to choose the right diet for your cat, too.
