The biggest among Spitz is Wolfsspitz (Keeshond). The breed cannot boast a special variety of colors. The dog has the wolfish color. Height at the withers does not exceed 50 cm. This breed became the ancestor of breeding other types of Spitz. Breeding work was carried out in the direction of reducing the size of dogs and a variety of colors. In the 19th century, this was done inactive, with no apparent achievements, but the end of the 20th century gave a new impetus to the development of breeding work.

Nurseries' work has two directions: selection breeding and pedigree breeding. The selection is to identify dogs with the most striking qualities and virtues of the breed. Pedigree breeding is a compilation of couples to produce offspring. Thus was bred the Japanese Spitz, a characteristic feature of which is snow-white color. Common gray German Spitz was brought to Japan in the 20s of the last century, and thanks to the efforts of dog breeders turned into a snow-white national fortune of the country. The first Japanese Spitz was officially registered in 1947. Its name was Hakura. Since then, work to improve the breed are maintained regularly, as the breed is considered more volatile.

The smallest Spitz is Pomeranian. It weighs less than 2 kg and its height at the withers is 22 cm. The color of Pomeranian Spitz can be very different: from pale cream to blue-black, from sable red to pure white. As larger relatives, Pomeranian is not fussy in feeding and eating. It is enough to comb it once a week, as it does not mat. Pomeranians are friendly, loyal to the owner and get along with children. They are said that, despite their small size, the Pomeranian is endowed with a lion's heart. The Pomeranian Spitz will stand in defense of the owner, if it thinks there is a danger for him/her.

Breeding work of the Pomeranian is conducted in the direction of decreasing barking. Since this lap breed is kept mostly in apartments, the excessive noise may annoy the neighbors.

Each nursery "leads" its dog throughout its life. The birth of a puppy is written into a special book. Then the nursery holds branding (now, they usually make micro chipping). After this procedure, the dog gets tis first paper - puppy's certificate of birth. Each Spitz that is purchased in nurseries annually is inspected and vaccinated in vet clinics, created with the nurseries. It is necessary to address here if the owners want to write down she-dog or he-dog for mating, to fill a newborn offspring and stud documents indicating parents. All of these procedures are accompanied by mandatory paperwork. Later, they will be necessary at dog shows (both local and foreign).

Spitz shows deserve special words. They are organized by nurseries, which raise this breed. It attracts large and small dogs from around the world to show the achievements (not only its but also the owners') in training, grooming and dog fashion.

At such exhibitions, breeders and nurseries choose pairs of Spitz for mating, as well as to popularize the breed. Here, you can see a Spitz puppy and the desire to have a little friend will appear. Spitz is a true friend and companion of a man since time out of memory.
