In the early 20th century, this breed was decided to re-create in Europe, but the Second World War, which resulted loss of its population, prevented these plans. Somehow, this breed appeared in the US and American breeders began to seriously breed these cats.

Egyptian Mau's appearance is elegant and graceful. Muscular body of an animal is well built and has perfect proportions. The head is round, the snout is wedge-shaped. The almond-shaped eyes to the age of one and a half years can be amber, but eventually the color changes to bright green. The edges of slightly slanted eyes have a distinct black border, if they are depicted with a black piece of coal. Egyptian Mau is the owner of large ears, which are widely set. There may be tuft at the top of the ears.

The hallmark of the breed is the mark of the letter "M" on its head. The so-called Scarab is over cat's eyes, giving its snout the frowning expression, and then towards the back of the head goes into the letter "W". Also, the standard of the breed are dark rings on the tail, and especially considering hanging skin fold between the hind feet. It is a heritage from the wild African ancestors, cheetahs in particular, and that fold allows them to accelerate very fast.

Its hair is short, very pleasant to the touch, has an iridescence and glitter. There are four colors: silver, honey or bronze, tin and smoke, which is considered the rarest. Spots are always darker than the main color. There is also char color, and cat's body is covered with very small spots. It is noteworthy, the spots that make a cat look incredibly beautiful - is not the result of the work of breeders, but a manifestation of nature.

Egyptian Mau has a different kind of character. Individualism is inherent to these cats, but it can also be noted that this breed does not contact directly. The animal studies its master for a long time, watching him, and shuns strangers. Despite its independence, the Egyptian Mau cannot stand loneliness. It needs special attention and special treatment. Often it can meow monotonically, like demanding something. When the contact with the owner is established, Egyptian Mau becomes playful, curious and friendly.

Its care requires some knowledge. First of all, it should be noted that this cat cannot stand cold weather, so when it walks in the winter, the owners wear them in special clothes. By the way, they get used to a leash that allows to walk with them down the street without fear of accidental escape. Walks are vital for them, as they require constant exercise, otherwise the animal will start to put on weight. The Egyptian Mau is quite a foodie, so it must be limited in the diet, thus making it the most balanced.
